Many successful personal injury cases arise from injuries people sustain due to dangerous conditions at stores and other public places. Wet floors, snow or ice, debris, raised edges, or protruding objects cause falls and injuries.
If you fall, immediately look around to determine the cause and, if able, use your cell phone to take pictures. If you fell in water or debris, also take pictures of the wetness or debris on your clothing. If something was sticking up or out of place, snap some pictures.
If someone is with you or someone comes to your aid, direct their attention to what caused your fall. Try to get the name and number of any witness. Just one witness can be very helpful.
If you fall in a commercial place like a store, someone may immediately want you to fill out a report or provide a statement which is entered into a report. If you fell due to the store’s fault – water, debris, ice, snow, protrusions – make sure to point it out to this person. If the person hands you a report to complete, thank them and put it in your pocket or purse and say you will fill it out later and return it. Get the full name of the person too. Rockwell Law Firm will assist you for free in completing the report.
